Anyone can wash their car any way they like! Same as we can all drive what we like and modifify it as we want as well.

The thing with detailing is that its exactly that, its in the detail. Depends entirely on how far you want to take it. There are some methods better than others but its entirely up to personal preferences.

I wouldn't condemn anyone for cleaning their car their old way, what frustrates me is that some people will argue that older methods are better or the same.
Simply put they're not, but it doesn't mean they can't achieve a clean car.

my personal choiced methods of drying are-

*Last touch(about £20 for 4.8litr Dilatable 1:1) (QD) with a chemical guys miracle dryer(£12.00)
Probs the quickest way of drying, but will kill the towel eventually.
*Carwasnwax giant waffle weave towel(£9.99) brilliant towel for pat drying the car and due to its size the towel will dry the bonnet in two goes normally.

like alex said detailing is all down to the length your willing to personally go to that that extra bit of 'ting'. As a member said in another thread its just not nice when some of the best cars use wash techniques that could be deemed improper by some.

Hi!
I have the solution to this problem with chamois SCRATCHING AND SWIRLING PAINT!

MINT PAINT + NEW CHAMOIS = MINT PAINT
MINT PAINT + TATY OLD CHAMOIS = SCRATCHES/SWIRLS

Compare the cost of a new chamois every month or so depending on cleaning habits! to the panel being repainted to make mint again!
If u use this solution it will be fine! but if u find u still get scratches and swirls! IT'S YOU THATS THE PROBLEM NOT THE CHAMOIS! GIVE YOURSELF A SLAP! LOL

Thing is mate its not so much the actual chamois that scratches it. Although a newer one would be better.

By my understanding, a chamois has a relatively flat surface, if there is any grit on the car or chamois and you wipe it over the car you're going to scratch it.

A drying towel has pockets on the suface designed to absorb water and minimise the chances of grit being rubbed along the surface.

Like with anything, you can still cause damage with a towel in the same sense don't always scratch your car with a chamois or drying blade.

For the sake of a few quid the only things I would really recommend is a wash mitt and drying towel instead of a sponge and chamois.

I've never had a problem with a chamois but the Sonus drying towels are just ten times better. Don't bother with a new chamois every now and again, just machine wash one of these after eash use -

I don't rate the Meguiars one though, I only use that for the windows as it doesn't pick up enough water.

mate, fair enough you are right in a sense, but where the F**k is that towel in ur pic gunna hide grit to stop scratches! the pile is like 3mm deep, and your hand is on the back of it squashing the pile into the paintwork, there is no difference what so ever between that and a chamois!

i do wash my car lovingly and i use all meguires and poor boys gear, but there is alot of marketing hype you all seem to be getting caught up in,
if ur that scared of scratches, use a hair dryer!

if a chamois or a sponge are cleaned properly after use then there wont be any scratches made when using them next, i use em and my paints never looked better tbh

Of course there is marketing hype and a lot of products will be marketed as safer than this and that.

That towel is slightly safer, not massively and lets face it if you're careless with anything it'll damage your paint.
Thing even a 2mm pile on that towel is enough to minimise a scratch a chamoise doesn't have any do it has slightly more risk.

Bigges attraction to that towel is that you can try and entire car without wringing it out. Also if you applyt the towel as I have, pat it down and drag off off its literally one wipe and its try. Quicker than a chamoise and less wringing out colde water.

Like with anything its how you use it above all. I've seen professional detailers use a sponge. In their hands its harmless, in the hands of some numpty with a bucket of gritty water its not.
