Stretched Tyres - Legality

Postby Luked on Mon Jun 30, 2008 10:42 am

Mate just sent me this link from a police forum with reference to whether a stretched tyre is legal.

Thought ild post the link up on here, as its worth a read anyway.

Im running 195-45-16s on 16x9s so im well out!

My cousin got pulled out by the plod for running 195-40's on his 16x8s. They gave him a PG9 which basically means his car is dangerous and not road worthy. He didnt get any points but a £30 and had to re-do his MOT.

Wont stop me stretching tyres though.

mike the police will always try and bullshit about it, just tell them to either book ye or leave you alone its alot of sh*t theres no such laws. 9 out of 10 people on tht forum were saying about it being illegal in their opinion. pmsl just shows how thick some of these people tht are ment to be enforcing laws really are.

those rozzas have no idea, my dads a rozz (iv not spoken to him in years for some 'unknown' reason) but all they like to do is get their nose stuck in and get their ego fix, none of them know ones saying it a grey area, ones saying its legal and the others saying its illegal!
they want to get a fucking grip, its rubber its strechy lol
sorry about that rant!

Ill have a rant now, i have stretched tyres, and will always have them! But they are not legal, if you can be told off by the police and fined they are not legal!
The fact they are a grey area means nothing, under the construction and use regulations regarding tyre safety they are fitted outside the manufacturers recomendations and are illegal!
I know this wont stop people doing it, sure as hell wont stop me.
As for the people saying ''do me for em or f**k off'' little word of warning, the max fine for incorrect/dangerous tyres is 3 points and £2500 fine! I had a pretty long convo with a traffic cop about this as i posted when i got stopped for mine, 195/45 on a 9j with alot of poke!
The best way to deal with police in this situation is stay calm, talk to them like they're human, and u will hopefully get away with a PG9.
Be a t**t and ur gunna get fined/points and possibly get your car impounded and face some pretty hefty storage charges!

My two cents :)
